This tutorial describes a detailed procedure demonstrating how to resize the disk of a Linux virtual machine on a VMware ESXi server 6.

Access your VMware ESXi server through vSphere and shut down the virtual machine.

Select the offline virtual machine, right click on it and select the edit settings option to access its properties.

When presented to the properties of the machine, select the hard disk and increase its size as desired.

Download the Linux GParted image and burn a bootable CD with this file.. (LINK)

After increase the virtual disk size, turn on your computer and boot it with the GParted Linux CD.

Start GParted on Linux in graphical mode and double-click the icon of the GParted program.

Accessing the Gparted's Disk Manager, select the partition to be expanded and click the resize button to extend the volume.

Resize the partition size as shown and click the Resize button.

The partition is resized immediately as shown below.

When finished resizing, restart your virtual machine normally and verify the size of your partitions.
