This tutorial describes a detailed procedure showing how to perform the configuration of voicemail on an Asterisk server.

INSTALLATION

Delete the current contents of the file "sip.conf"
# echo > /etc/asterisk/sip.conf

Edit the file "sip.conf"
# vi /etc/asterisk/sip.conf

Here is a functional configuration file

[general]

tcpenable=no

We created 2 extensions 100 & 200.




Delete the current contents of the file "extensions.conf".
# echo > /etc/asterisk/extensions.conf

Edit the file "extensions.conf".
# vi /etc/asterisk/extensions.conf

Here is a functional configuration file.

  • The extension 100 is configured in a way that a call is redirected to voicemail after 5 seconds unanswered. 
    The extension 200 was created without the voicemail feature.
    The extension 500 was created as the extension to access the voicemail menu.

    Delete the current contents of the file "voicemail.conf".
    #
    echo > /etc/asterisk/voicemail.conf


Edit the current contents of the file "voicemail.conf".
# vi /etc/asterisk/voicemail.conf


Here is a functional configuration file.

100 => 666,Son Goku,This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.


We created an extension 100 with voicemail account and password 666, the name Son Goku and the e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.


Restart Asterisk.
# /etc/init.d/asterisk restart

TRY TO CALL

After setting two softphones with their extensions 100 and 200, try to call extension 100 and wait for the voicemail. 
(Remember that the message must be at least 3 seconds to be accepted as voicemail.)
